Answering your own questions is (was?) actually a promoted thing by Stack Overflow.

It's a developer resource site, it's not about showing off how big your dick is by answering the most questions. He couldn't find an answer, found it, then posted it to help others and judging by the amount of votes probably made number 1 on Google for that question.
