I see this sentiment a lot, but personally, I don't care how well you can code, if you seem like a miserable person to work with, you aren't getting a spot on my team. Bad coding practices can be easily corrected. Ability to work and communicate well with others, not so much. I think it's much more important in a tech interview to gauge problem solving skills and personality. When you're inevitably thrown a curve-ball from the Product team, I wanna know you'll be able to handle that well and be able to work with them to come up with a decent solution. When you have to hand off some code you're working on to somebody else, I wanna know you can talk about your code in an intelligible way and explain why you made the decisions you made. If you fail at these types of things, it has a much bigger impact on the team and the company than if I have to send your code back to you a couple times because it's not up to par quality-wise.
